Introducing OLIVIA – A Powerful Australian Film Tackling Domestic Violence
At Stoke Design Co, we are incredibly honoured to have played a small role in the upcoming feature film OLIVIA, contributing to the logo design for this impactful project. This film carries an essential message, and we’re proud to support the cause in any way we can.
What is OLIVIA About?
Directed by Victorian filmmaker Genna Chanelle Hayes, OLIVIA is a narrative drama that takes a bold stance against domestic violence and femicide. Set to film in regional Victoria, including Ballarat and Melbourne, the story dives deep into the female experience, shining a light on the persistent violence that women face.
Hayes, known for her critically-acclaimed debut AKONI, is no stranger to tackling difficult subjects through powerful storytelling. She began writing OLIVIA in 2020, following the tragic deaths of Aiia Maasarwe and Eurydice Dixon in Melbourne. The script has since become a passion project, driven by Hayes’ commitment to storytelling that brings about meaningful change.
“This is not about advocacy for me,” says Hayes. “These are stories that need to be told to create the right kind of change. I create art intuitively, reflecting what I experience in life and society. And right now, we need this film more than ever.”
Why We’re Supporting OLIVIA
We believe in the power of storytelling to shift perspectives and spark change. Projects like OLIVIA remind us of the importance of amplifying difficult but necessary conversations. This film aims not only to shed light on the realities of violence against women but also to push for solutions that can help eliminate femicide.
The project is now live with a crowdfunding campaign to help raise the funds needed to film a critical block during shearing season next month. Hayes and her team are working tirelessly to get OLIVIA into production, with a target release in mid-2025.
